Are you looking for a new apartment or already found one? Before beginning your house removal preparations, check out these 5 easy tips to ensure that your moving process goes as smoothly as possible.

  1. If you are planning on moving large furniture, measure it and make sure it fits to be carried out the old apartment and into the new one.
    Often people have Ikea style ready-to- assemble furniture that they have carried to the apartment in a solid package. In one piece, however, the furniture might not even fit to be carried out the door, not to mention the elevator or stairway. If this is the case, don’t worry. Oranje Transport handles dismantling and reassembling of all Ikea furniture, but do make sure you mention the need for this when making the order.
  2. Make sure you have enough boxes for carrying small items.
    Easy way to get cardboard boxes for free is to ask from grocery stores, liquor stores and book stores. Sometimes the need for extra boxes can come as a surprise during the removal, that’s why Oranje Transport has few empty ones always at hand in the van. When packing things into boxes, remember to write on the box what’s inside, and especially mention if the items are fragile.
  3. Remember to switch of the freezer at least one night before the removal to avoid ice melting during the removal and wetting your other items.
    To speed-up the defrosting, you can use hot water that you spread on the ice with a sponge. Remember to also place towels or old newspapers on the floor directly in front of the freezer to soak up all the melting water.
  4. Disconnect your washing machine beforehand.
    This is usually a rather easy process that you can do yourself. Before anything else make sure that you have turned off the water valves and disconnected the electricity plug. After this, remove the hoses and make sure all the water is removed from inside the machine. If you don’t want to do this yourself, Orane Transport can of course do it for you.   5. If you’re planning on renting a van and doing the removal all by yourself, be well prepared for the paperwork.
